Greenville, S.C. (January 10, 2025) – Greenville County Schools, in partnership with The Barbara Stone Foundation, is hosting a resource fair “The Road to Possibilities – An Opportunity Fair!” on Thursday, February 6th, from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for students with disabilities ages
3-21, their families, and district special education staff. The free event is also open to the public and will be held at the University Center at 225 S. Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville.
Exhibitors will provide information on community resources and services to assist students and families while in school as well as when they begin to plan for navigating the road to an inclusive future after high school. Resources will include information on post-secondary education and training, employment opportunities, recreation and leisure pursuits, independent living, financial literacy, legal planning, etc.
Workshops will be offered during “The Road to Possibilities” for students and families from organizations and agencies including Able SC, The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN), SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department (VR), Family Connection of SC, Disability Rights of SC, Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands, Palmetto ABLE Savings Program, SOS Care, and more.
“When students with disabilities graduate from high school and enter adulthood, the daily supports that they have known and had for their entire educational journey end. It becomes critical that our students and families have been educated and informed and more importantly, understand the community resources available and how to access them,” said Carlene Zierfuss, Transition Coordinator, Greenville County School District.
“The Barbara Stone Foundation and the school district are excited to partner on this important event to provide information about educational and recreational opportunities, career paths, life skills, employment, state benefits, self-advocacy and more,” said Lara Ceisel, Executive Director, Barbara Stone Foundation.
Food will be provided, and attendees can enjoy live entertainment from disability-related groups in the Upstate.
